The valley is surrounded by beautiful mountains and very attractive scenery. Kaprun Castle is ideal for sightseeing, dating from the 12th century and mentioned for the first time in 1280. The castle festival is one of the highlights of the summer programme of the Europa-Sportregion. Lasting two days, you are transported back to medieval times with parades, jousting, witches, jugglers, and magicians. Nestling on the scenic shores of Lake Zell, Zell am See is a charming small town. You will find a wide range of shops, restaurants, cosy pavement cafes and off-slope activities in its medieval traffic-free centre. In midwinter the lake freezes over and can be used for ice skating and curling. | |||||

Activities in Kaprun & Zell am See, Austria in winter Something you should not miss when on your holidays in Austria is the Gletscherbahn , a cogwheel railway running from Kaprun along a glacier bed to the peak of Kitzsteinhorn. There are organised sightseeing excursions to both the Grossglockner Pass, and city Salzburg. In the summer visitors there is a sailing school in Prielau, and a beach and a water-ski school at Thumersbach. You will also find parasailing, windsurfing, sailing, tube-rafting and banana boats on the lake. you can also play golf. | |||||
