The closest international airport is Salzburg which has regular flights from London Stansted. There are also flights from Coventry or Bournemouth to Salzburg staring in December 2005. Innsbruck is only 2 hours away so can be used as an alternative airport to Salzburg.

Kaprun is in a beautiful mountainous area of Austria, 50 miles from Salzburg with easy access by road, train and bus.

CAR HIRE

We find the way to get from Salzburg airport to Kaprun is to hire a car. This website usually offers good value: http://www.auto-europe.co.uk/car.cfm . The car hire offices are opposite the entrance to the terminal building. Car hire is available from all the airports. The flat has off street parking.

Driving time is about 75 to 90 min from Salzburg and 3 hours from Munich. By car from Salzburg airport, head south on autobahns A1 and A10, then turn right on to the B311 for Zell am See, Kaprun is another 15 minutes further on. By car from Munich, drive to Salzburg by autobahn, and head toward Bischofshofen. Rental cars are available in Salzburg or Munich.

 

 
 
 
 
 
 
 

BUS & TRAIN FROM THE AIRPORT

Zell has a regular national and international train service and a 10 minute bus service to Kaprun. The quickest and simplest public transport route to Zell am See and Kaprun is to fly into Salzburg's international airport, obtain a shuttle transfer to the Salzburg train station and catch a train to the resort.

Public Airport Bus
There is also the possibility to use the public airport bus to Salzburg Hauptbahnhof (€ 1,80 - frequency 30 min) where you can take the train to Zell am See.

There are rail services to Zell am See international railway station from Salzburg, Vienna and Munich. The fares, frequencies, and lengths of the trip are shown below. Further information can be obtained from the website of the Austrian Railways: http://www.oebb.at (Don't forget that you can also get to Zell am See via Europrail from Waterloo, if you would like to travel the whole way on the train).
