Guggenhohenweg Kaprun - This a walk around the edge of Kaprun which is described as easy and suitable for families in the local tourist information, but did not seem that easy or suitable for families as it took a steep narrow path through the forest in the mountains above Kaprun. The walking boots we had bought in the summer were a good investment after all. We started from the Gemeinde - Town Hall - walking through the town passed the swimming pool.

Eventually you will wind out of the village passed some farm buildings and the Guggenbichl restaurant with stunning views of Kaprun and the valley. This only opens after 3pm on week days and 11am at the weekend, so bear that in mind when timing your walk. Also as this is near the end of the walk you might be better starting the walk from the castle end. Not long after the restaurant the road becomes a track. When we came across the sign pointing to a path climbing into the forest we debated whether it was accurate.

We decided it was and started walking up and up through the narrow path in the wood. There are plenty of seats along the way if you need a rest. I saw deer in clearing but it moved off before I could get my camera ready. The path eventually descends, crossing the track we had left earlier and down to Kaprun Castle.
